My first Love Story is one an awesome one. I have the pleasure of knowing this couple! I have never met anyone like them. These are the most generous, kind hearted people you will ever meet. I spent many evenings & weekends hanging out at their home when I was in high school! I have yet to meet another person quite like Jennifer. I promise you she is the sweetest human being! I’m so grateful they allowed me to share a little bit about their love story on my blog!
Greg + Jennifer
How long have you been married?
History of your marriage; how you met? got engaged?
We met at a roller skating rink in 1981, 37 year ago. We dated off and on until February 14, 1988, when we moved in together. On that day we made a commitment to each other; part of that was if we argue neither of us can walk out the door or it was over. To this day neither of us has walked out the door.
Our engagement – Greg had started asking me to marry him long before we were engaged & I always said no I’m never getting married. One day he parked the car in front of his moms house & told me to wait he would only be a minute. When he came back to the car he got in, handed me the ring & said “now we’re engaged” & kissed me. I laughed & said you’re not even going to give me the chance to say no again. We were married on December 21, 1990.
What is your favorite thing about him/her?
At first I was attracted to his sense of humor. After I got to know him more it was how trustworthy, honest & caring he was that really stood out to me.
What is your most memorable moment together?
We’ve made so many memories together, it is hard to pick one. We went to a regatta (outdoor concert) on year with his friends. When we left we had to take a boat back to our car & the Hooters band was on the boat with us. One of them made a pass at me & he & Greg got into a fight. When we finally got back to Greg’s car it was stuck in the mud. The guys had me (14 years old, no driving experience) get into the drivers seat & they told me to press the gas to the floor while they pushed. I held down the gas until the engine blew up! He & his friends were covered in mud from head to toe & they were all mad at me. They started walking to find rides. During the whole process, mud flew all over the cars surrounding his. We sat on a hill while each owner of the surrounding cars came back & got mad about the mud. They covered his poor dead car in mud, pushing it into the handles & smearing it everywhere. One even put a bush on top of the big pile of mud on the hood of the car. We just sat there, holding hands & laughing our butts off.
What is your favorite thing to do together?
Our favorite thing to do together is travel. Some go our favorite trips are to beaches, we love to walk on the beach during the sunrise. We went to Blackwater Falls, WV once & stayed in a cabin. We hiked to the Falls & farther. We listened to my favorite band play at The Purple Fiddle I couldn’t believe they were there that weekend. My favorite part of that trip was horseback riding in the snow with my husband.
What is your biggest piece of advice for a man going into his marriage?
Find a way to balance your soft side with your strong side. Women want a strong, but loving man for a husband.
What is your biggest piece of advice for a woman going into her marriage?
Women, lift your man up! Believe that he will be successful & that he is truly the only man for you.
What do you think makes a marriage work?
We have been best friends from the beginning & we stick together & stand up for one another no matter what. That can get difficult at times since we are polar opposites. Our love for one another is so strong that we always have each others backs, even if we don’t agree.
